This album is a compilation of images taken in Cutler, Maine. I’ve selected Cutler as the site in which to design this pilot design because of its combination of a beautiful natural harbor and small town, but also because of the town remoteness and falling population. Unlike some other small towns along the coast in Washington Co., Cutler relies entirely on commercial fishing and lobstering for its income. This lack of economic diversity, its remote location, and constant depopulation over the last ten years, mean that it would benefit greatly from this proposal. This site’s challenges will be the logistic difficulties caused by location, and balancing the desire of residents to keep their privacy and way of life, with the new development and industry.
